FAQ

Before you head out.

Is this only for backpacking?

No. PlanWild is built for gear-heavy trips first, so weights and pack lists are there when you want them. Any trip where people share what to bring works the same way: a beach week, a cabin weekend, a group camp.

Can I use PlanWild on my own?

Yes. Start by organizing your own gear and lists. Invite a crew when you're ready.

What does it cost?

Nothing. Trips, lists, invites, group gear and the brief are free, and nothing you make now will be locked or charged for later. PlanWild Plus, for people who organize trips all the time, is coming.

Can I bring my LighterPack lists?

Yes. Import a CSV exported from LighterPack, or from PlanWild, on your lists page after you sign in. Review the preview before saving. Check the mapped categories after importing.

How does shared gear work?

PlanWild compares what the trip needs with what your crew has listed and highlights possible overlaps and gaps. Your crew decides what to bring. Nothing is removed or reassigned automatically.

What can people at home see?

Anyone with the link can read the trip name, dates, when to expect you back and who's going. A backpacking trip also shows its location, plan and parking note; a casual trip shows only an area the organizer chooses, and saves the address, directions and plan for the crew, who see them when signed in. A trip with a route adds distance, climb and an elevation profile. If the organizer turns them on, the brief also lists the shared gear and who carries it, and draws the route on a map, which shows where the crew will camp. Without the map it carries no coordinates, and it never shows email addresses or private gear notes. The organizer can turn the link off or replace it.
